Foundation and scope
These publication policies are grounded in the nêhiyaw customary-law principles of no-harm, consent, sacred responsibility, truthful witness, reciprocity and restoration, and in cîmân’s understanding of the continuing Treaty No. 6 relationship. They govern the publication’s own conduct and the permissions it may grant. They do not purport to enact law for a Nation, determine another person’s title, or reproduce the full terms of Treaty No. 6. Ref Ref
Nature of the publication
cîmân publishes reporting, commentary, historical research, language materials and community contributions. News, opinion, working drafts and unresolved research questions shall be identified according to their character. A working draft is not represented as a final finding or as an instrument ratified through Council-Fire.
Treaty, language and oral authority
The publication’s Treaty analysis shall identify the source and distinguish the Crown’s written record from oral accounts, customary-law interpretations and judicial decisions. Within the customary-law framework used by the publication, nêhiyawêwin is controlling and English bears witness; English wording shall not be substituted for consent or represented as a complete statement of orally transmitted law. Publication does not itself confer ceremonial authority, establish Council-Fire consensus, or surrender rights held by a person or Nation.
Reliance and professional advice
Material is published for information, education and public discussion. It is not individual legal, tax, financial or other professional advice, and does not establish a professional-client relationship. A statement of the publication’s legal position is not a representation that a court has determined that position.
Accuracy and correction
Reasonable care shall be taken to verify material. A person requesting correction should identify the passage, its location, the alleged error and supporting sources or context. Material errors shall be corrected with a dated explanation where appropriate. This process does not transfer the publication’s responsibility to substantiate its own claims to the person raising a concern.
External material and responsibility
Links identify external sources or services; they do not constitute endorsement or a grant of rights in their content. Nothing in this notice excuses fraud, deliberate misrepresentation or a failure to correct a material error once established.
